University of Virginia

College Advising Corps at the University of Virginia was established in the fall of 2005. The program launched to address the widening gap in college access for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students. Initial funding was provided by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Since then, the University of Virginia program has:

  • held 199,511 one-on-one appointments with students;
  • presented 45,925 classroom visits and workshops;
  • hosted 17,021 meetings with parents;
  • planned and accompanied students on 5,708 campus tours;
  • assisted 9,065 students on SAT preparation;
  • ensured completion of 19,599 FAFSA applications; and
  • guided over 26,097 students through enrollment in post-secondary institutions.

Today, College Advising Corps at the University of Virginia places 41 near-peer advisers in 46 partner high schools across the state of Virginia.
