University of Texas at Austin

The first College Advising Corps program in Texas — The University of Texas at Austin College Advising Corps — was founded in 2010-2011 with 15 college advisers serving Houston, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley. The program has since expanded to include 21 advisers serving 21 high schools in Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, El Paso, and the Rio Grande Valley. In an effort to increase the number of low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation students pursuing higher education, the UT Austin program hires, trains, and places exceptional recent college graduates — from all fields of study — to serve as full-time, near-peer college advisers in high schools across the state.
