History of the Corps
Launched with $12 million in funding from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, with additional support from the Lumina Foundation for Education, NCAC now serves more than 45,000 students in 13 states.
Institutional partners include the University of Alabama, Brown University, the University of California at Berkeley, Franklin and Marshall College, the University of Georgia, the University of Illinois, the University of Michigan, the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Pennsylvania State University, Tufts University / Massachussetts Campus Compact, the University of Texas, the University of Utah, and the University of Virginia.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill serves as the national headquarters and the institutional home of the consortium.
Spotlight on Service
In my role as a college adviser with the Brown chapter of the National College Advising Corps, it's hard to ignore the sheer desire to go to college among the young people with whom I work. Unfortunately, because of the barriers in opportunity facing these students, many will no longer see these college dreams as reality by their senior year. Within four years, many of these hopeful hands will be lowered quietly to their desks.
